Terms of Service
⚠ Draft. Replace with lawyer-reviewed terms before public launch.
Last updated: 17 May 2026
1. Acceptance
By creating a SafeLane account, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
2. The service
SafeLane is an end-to-end encrypted password manager. Your master passphrase never leaves your device. Because of this design, SafeLane cannot recover your account if you forget your master passphrase. This is a feature, not a bug — it's what makes your data inaccessible to us, our employees, and any attacker who breaches our servers.
3. Your account
You're responsible for keeping your master passphrase safe. We recommend writing it on paper and storing it somewhere fireproof.
4. Subscription and billing
- The service offers a 14-day free trial. No card required to start.
- After the trial, paid plans start at £4.99/month (or £49.99/year).
- Billed via Stripe in advance. Cancel any time from Settings → Billing.
- Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — no pro-rata refunds.
- If a payment fails, your vault becomes read-only until you update your card. We retain your data for 30 days.
5. Acceptable use
You may not use SafeLane to:
- Store credentials for illegal activity.
- Attempt to bypass account isolation (each account is its own walled garden).
- Reverse-engineer or attack the encryption (good-faith security research is welcome — see Security page).
- Resell access to your account.
6. Service availability
We aim for high availability but make no SLA promises during this stage. Scheduled maintenance windows are announced in advance.
7. Termination
We may terminate your account for violations of these terms. You may terminate at any time via Settings → Delete Account. Either way, we permanently delete your data within 30 days.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability for any claim arising from your use of SafeLane is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim. We are not liable for consequential or indirect damages.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes go to the courts of England and Wales.
